JD-U today slammed government's decision to bring ordinances on insurance and coal block allocation and requested the President not to sanction them.
"JD-U strongly condemns the ordinance route of the Central Government, clearing the bill on FDI on insurance and coal block allocation.
"JD-U also lodges its protest against the ordinance and request the President not to sanction any ordinance bypassing the Parliament," party's secretary general K C Tyagi said in a statement today.
"This will set a wrong trend and this should be stopped at the very first instance," he added.
As a member of the Select Committee on Insurance Bill, he said, they had given a dissent note on various aspects of the Bill which the Government has completely "ignored".
The issue of allocation of coal block also never came up in Rajya Sabha, he said.
"By taking the ordinance route, Government is trying to weaken the institutions and bypassing the Upper House as the Government does not have majority there," he said.
The Union Cabinet had yesterday approved promulgation of the Ordinance on Insurance Bill, re-promulgation of the Coal Ordinance and allowing up to 100 per cent FDI in medical devices in the pharmaceutical sector under the automatic route.
The decision came a day after the Winter Session of Parliament was adjourned sine die.
The Insurance Laws Amendment Bill, 2008 could not be taken up for discussion in Parliament despite being approved by the Select Committee of the Upper House because of the uproar over the conversion and other issues.
The Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill, 2014 has already been approved by the Lok Sabha during the session but could make no progress in the upper House.
