Jeera rises 1.66% as demand picks up

Traders create frsh positions as lower arrivals from growing belts, export prospects support uptrend

Jeera prices were higher by 1.66 per cent to Rs 12,230 per quintal in futures trade today as as speculators created fresh positions, amid pick up in domestic demand and restricted arrivals from producing regions.

Besides, overseas enquiries supported the uptrend.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in November month rose Rs 200, or 1.66 per cent, to Rs 12,230 per quintal with an open interest of 234 lots.

The December contract gained Rs 180, or 1.47 per cent to Rs 12,395 per quintal in 6,672 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in jeera futures to fresh positions created by speculators after demand picked up in the spot market amid decline in arrivals from producing belts.
