A 33-year-old employee of a jeweller's workshop, who was allegedly involved in stealing jewellery worth Rs 1.25 crore from the workshop after drugging other employees, was arrested from West Bengal, the police said today.

Kaushik Goswami, who owns a jewellery workshop in Karol Bagh, informed police that valuables had been stolen from his workshop.
On the intervening night of November 4 and 5, Surajit Manna, an employee in Goswami's workshop, offered liquor and sweets laced with sedatives to his fellow craftsmen saying that it was his daughter's birthday, the police said.
After consuming the liquor and sweets, the workers fell unconscious and Manna along with his accomplice Pintu, stole the gold jewellery, moulds with jewellery and other items and fled from the workshop.
Police started scanning the call detail records of the accused, whose phone was found to be switched off. However, police found that he was in touch with certain people from West Bengal before the crime.
The accused was traced in Diamond Harbour, West Bengal and a team was sent there.
Manna kept on changing his hideouts, but was arrested from the house of one of his acquaintances from Basulat Falta village in Diamond Harbour, West Bengal, said Alok Kumar, joint commissioner of police (Crime).
