The accused, Surajit Manna, had plans to start his own jewellery business in his hometown in West Bengal with the stolen valuables, they said.
Kaushik Goswami, who owns a jewellery workshop in Karol Bagh, informed police that valuables had been stolen from his workshop.
On the intervening night of November 4 and 5, Surajit Manna, an employee in Goswami's workshop, offered liquor and sweets laced with sedatives to his fellow craftsmen saying that it was his daughter's birthday, the police said.
Police started scanning the call detail records of the accused, whose phone was found to be switched off. However, police found that he was in touch with certain people from West Bengal before the crime.
The accused was traced in Diamond Harbour, West Bengal and a team was sent there.
Manna kept on changing his hideouts, but was arrested from the house of one of his acquaintances from Basulat Falta village in Diamond Harbour, West Bengal, said Alok Kumar, joint commissioner of police (Crime).
Manna had been working as a craftsmen in Delhi for the last 16-17 years and had been employed at Goswami's workshop for the last six years. His accomplice, Pintu is yet to be arrested.
