Addressing a news conference here today Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Singhal told newsmen that one Fiza Rahim alias Husain Shaikh, had indulged in chain snatching along with her brothers.
Allegedly, they had targeted women walking on the road by riding a motorbike and snatching away their jewels, the police said.
Crime Unit-I raided Fiza's residence and recovered gold ornaments necklaces weighing 664 gm valued at Rs 15.30 lakh, Singhal said.
Interrogation revealed that her brothers Sadiq Ali Hussain and Mehndi Hussain, with the help of other members of the Irani gang used to indulge in chain snatching in and around Thane.
Allegedly, some years years ago, Fiza and other members of the Irani gang had attacked a police team which had gone to nab the criminals for thefts and chain snatching, the police said.
