Gold jewellery worth Rs 24.90 lakh was allegedly stolen from Shiv Sena leader Vijay Chougule's house in neighbouring Navi Mumbai, police said today.
Chougule's domestic servant, who is absconding, is the main suspect in the case, said a police official.
The theft took place yesterday evening at Chougule's house at Yash Paradise at Airoli, when the Sena leader and his family were out of town.
It is suspected that their servant, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, broke the locker in which jewellery was kept and decamped with it.
A case has been registered against the servant at Rabale police station and probe in underway, the police official added.
