On the eve of B R Ambedkar's 125th birth anniversary, Jharkhand government announced distribution of cycles, clothes and shoes among 'safai' workers.
Chief Minister Raghubar Das, while addressing a function organised in honour of 'safai' workers, said the items would be provided within two months and women workers who knew how to sew will get sewing machines too.
To encourage the workers, Das gave Rs 1,000 to 30 'safai' workers of Ranchi Nagar Nigam.
A total 2000 safai workers, who attended the function, were given the same amount through different supervisors, an official release said.
Das said Ambedkar had created the spark for the uplift of toiling people and the result was a member of Dalit family (Amar Kumar Bauri) becoming Tourism Minister in his Cabinet.
Das said he too reached to the post of Chief Minister from being a 'mazdoor'.
The Chief Minister said welfare fairs would be organised in every district to extend benefits of the government schemes to the labour force from agriculture and unorganised sectors.
Some agriculture tools would also be given to the labourers in the sector, he said.
In his speech, Bauri, who also holds the portfolios of Revenue & Land Reforms, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, said the social point of view has not changed much even now with some people not allowing their domestic help use their furniture.
Recalling Ambedkar's struggle against this discrimination, Bauri called upon the people to tread the path shown by 'Babasaheb'.
