With Ranchi emerging as the base for alleged activities by Indian Mujahideen (IM) following the Sunday serial blasts in Patna, Jharkhand Police wants its own Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).
"We have already sent our proposal, on the pattern of Maharashtra, to the state government for clearance," Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar told reporters here today.
"ATS is urgently required to liquidate the IM and other anti-national terrorist groups by taking quick action and contain activities of IM and other anti-national activities more effectively," he said.
These groups, have become active and pose a threat to the nation's security and peace, he added.
Effective measures against the left-wing extremism has also reduced the number of Naxal incidents in the state from last year's 370 to 270 (till now) this year, the DGP said.
The police also succeeded in arresting top CPI (Maoist) leaders and other organisations during the period, he added.
"We are holding important meetings with the Superintendents of Police of different districts in forests areas to know details about the topography (in order) to take effective measures against extremism," he said, asserting that the police would reach remote parts known as Maoist citadels.
