A few persons have been detained for interrogation after Jharkhand Police Rajeev Kumar received a threat SMS, warning him to stop anti-naxal operations or he will be eliminated along with Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
"I have received the SMS (stating) 'stop (anti)naxal operation or I kill U and ur CM Hemant Soren," the DGP said here today.
The DGP got the SMS yesterday night, a day after another SMS threatened Chakulia Block Development Officer Girija Shankar Mahto in East Singhbhum district.
Kumar said the BDO's message read, "Give me five lakh rupees or I will kill you," and identified the sender as an 'area commander'.
A few persons have been detained who have facilitated in providing the SIM card to the sender of the SMS in Sareikela Kharsawan district.
"It is very difficult to say," the DGP said when asked whether he suspected a Maoist handiwork, adding "only after a thorough interrogation can we able to say."
The police were interrogating "the few persons", whom they detained during the day in Sareikela Kharsawan district in connection with the incident, the top cop said.
The Maoists had eliminated Pakur Superintendent of Police Amarjit Balihar on July 2 last year in Dumka after which the police had stepped up anti-naxal operation across the state.
