Reliance Jio has become the top mobile service provider in the Kolkata circle.
Jio overtook the previous market leader Vodafone Idea, according to the latest subscriber data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Friday.
Jio had 90,03,329 connections in the month of May 2019 against 88,13,745 in the previous month of April.
The number of Vodafone-Idea subscribers slipped to 89,25,949 in May against 90,60,302 in April.
A Jio statement quoting TRAI data said, Reliance Jio added over 1.89 lakh subscribers in May 2019.
Apart from Jio, only BSNL added subscribers during the month under review though the figure is marginal - 7813.
Aitel commanded a subscriber base of 60,39,082 in May.
All operators combined subscriber during the month of May slipped by 50,133 to a total subscriber base of 2,62,80,286 connections. Nationally, total subscribers squizzed nearly by 4.38 lakh in May compared to the previous month of April 2019.
