"I have passed an order making every doctor to undergo first 10 years of his service in rural areas. This is now a policy decision," health minister Sham Lal Sharma told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
Sharma said the recruitment policy had some flaws which have been ironed out, making 10 years rural tenure for doctors compulsory.
"We have made three zones in the rural sectors where each doctor will spent his ten years of service in Primary Health Centre, Community Health Centre and Sub-district hospital... only after completing 10 years, a doctor will be entitled for posting in a district hospital," he said.
"Doctors not adhering to the policy will not get increments and other service benefits," the minister said. PTI AB KUN
