A day after former chief minister Omar Abdullah accused Jammu and Kashmir government of spying on him, the government today hit back saying he was just trying to make an issue.

"Omar is tweeting almost daily... May be he had no issues yesterday, so he thought to Tweet that. Why should the state government spy on him?" Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh told reporters here.

Singh said the government was stable and was doing a fine job and Omar was no threat to it.

"The government is doing good, is stable and doing a fine job. The people have rejected them. He is not a threat. If there is some threat from anyone then spying may be done. (But) there is nothing like that in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

The deputy chief minister said it was normal to have security outside the residences of politicians.

"He (Omar) is just trying to make an issue. There is security even outside my home. Other politicians too have security. If it was spying the officer would not have stopped the journalist in open. Spying is not done in that way. He (Omar) is contradicting himself," Singh said.
