"Police shall launch a massive crackdown against violation of red beacons on vehicle," DIG Jammu, Shakeel Ahmed Beig told reporters here.
As per the directions of the apex court, red beacons could be used only on vehicles of high constitutional dignitaries.
J&K Police has taken a lead by removing red beacons from their official vehicles yesterday after DGP Ashok Prasad took the first step himself, followed by his Additional DGPs and others below.
As per the order, the red beacons can only be used on the vehicles by the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Justice and Judges of High Court, Chairman, Speaker and Cabinet Ministers.
Anybody violating the directions of the Supreme Court will be sternly punished as per the law, he added.
