JLR gets 300 pre-launch bookings for Discovery Sport SUV

Tata Motors-owned JLR, which today launched its latest compact SUV 'Discovery Sport', said that the company has already bagged 300 bookings prior to the official roll-out.
The new five and seven-seater machine from the British marquee brand comes with a 2.2-liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission, and is available in four variants with a starting price of Rs 46.1 lakh and going up to Rs 62.18 lakh for the top-end seven-seater, ex-showroom Mumbai.
The Discovery Sport will take on the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and the Volvo XC60.
"We have received humongous response to the Discovery Sport even at the pre-launch level, as we have received 300 bookings," JLR India president Rohit Suri said.

He also said JLR brands enjoy 9 per cent market share in the luxury car space in the country which sells about 30,000 units a year and dominated by three German brands-the Merc, Audi and BMW.
When asked whether he hopes the initial response to continue, he answered in the affirmative saying, "I definitely hope so as these 300 bookings were done even before we announced the prices. That shows there is something special about this vehicle."

The new SUV comes with a three-year warranty and the price is inclusive of the warranty, Suri said at the launch.
The Discovery Sport is available in four variants-- the 140 kW SD4 and 110 kW TD4 derivatives. The new SUV is rolled out from the company's Pune facility, he added.

The upper end model commands a price of Rs 62.18 lakh for seven-seater car, while the price for the five-seater is Rs 60.70 lakh. All the four models come with a 2.2 litre diesel engine, Suri added.
