Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Amit Kumar Mahto has been disqualified from the membership of the Assembly after a local court sentenced him to two years imprisonment in a case, an assembly release said here today.
The decision was taken by Speaker Dinesh Oraon under the provisions of the Representation of People's Act, after consulting the advocate general.
The disqualification would be with retrospective effect from March 23, the day on which the Ranchi court sentenced the JMM MLA in a case of 2005, the release said.
