Country's largest container port JNPT today said it has registered a 5.11 per cent growth in cargo handling for the April-June period at 1.20 million standard units.
The port, located off the eastern waterfront of the financial capital, handled 1.20 million TEUs or standard container units as against 1.14 million TEUs in the same period last year, it said in a statement here.
Of the three terminals, the two privately operated ones registered a growth of 14.5 per cent each while the state-run port's own terminal had a 0.5 per cent increase.
The APM Terminal, which was hit by a ransomware attack towards the end of the quarter, witnessed a 14.5 per cent increase at 4.99 lakh TEUs, while the DP World-operated terminal also grew its cargo handled by 14.5 per cent to 1.34 lakh TEUs.
The port's deputy chairman Neeraj Bansal said the performance is at par with expectations and exuded confidence of FY18 turning out to be a good year.
There were 44,389 truck movements inter-terminal involving 55,498 transactions, which resulted in savings of 3.33 lakh km of movement and furl worth Rs 72.13 lakh, the port claimed.
These measures have helped reduce the export dwell time to 70 hours and the import dwell time to 29 hours, it added.
