The five were arrested from Gautam Buddha Nagar today and are identified as Manvir, Narinder Kumar, Pravin Ghosh, Nitin Yadav, and Faizan, said Triveni Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTIF).
Besides, two cars, eight mobile phone sets, two laptops, seven ATM cards and Rs 6,370 cash was seized from their possession, Singh said.
The incident came to light after an FIR was lodged in Lucknow by Sudhir Kumar that he was duped of Rs 46,900 by some persons, who promised him a job.
Upon interrogation, they revealed they were operating in connivance with the employees of a job portal who provided them the profile of unemployed persons persons seeking jobs, the ASP said.
Explaining the modus operandi of the gang, Singh said, they used to contact the persons conduct a telephonic interview, and selected them for a job.
After this, they used to give them an account number and asked them to deposit Rs 5,000-Rs 10,000 for registration and interview charges and other services.
As the victims had filed their resume at the job portal, they deposited the amount in the account thinking the call was from the same company, he said.
The five have been booked and investigation is on, he said.
