The "Step by Step" singer is to star in the sitcom, tentatively titled "The Joey McIntyre Project", in which he would play a fictionalised version of himself as he tries to move away from his persona as a boy band heartthrob and become a serious actor, reported Deadline.
Bandmate Donnie Wahlberg will help produce the project along with his wife, model/ TV star Jenny McCarthy.
McIntyre joined New Kids On The Block at the age of 13, and soon became an international sensation. Over the years, he has appeared in numerous movies and TV series such as "Boston Public", "The Hotwives of Orlando", and the recently cancelled "The McCarthys".
