The 36-year-old singer had split from his manager Michael McDonald in December last year after being together for 13 years, reported Rolling Stone magazine.
The pair have known each other for years, and his hiring marks the first time Carter, who primarily has managed pop and hip-hop artists, will work with a major rock musician.
Carter left Gaga's team in November last year.
