The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) today cleared triple jumpers Mayookha Johny and Renjith Maheshwary for the Incheon Asian Games after they were cleared in the trials held at NIS, here today.
However, the men's 4x400m relay team couldn't make it to Incheon after they again performed below-par at the final trials today.
Renjith, who got six attempts had the best leap of 16.61m in his fifth attempt as he crossed the 16m barrier during his last three attempts.
As far as Mayookha is concerned, her first attempt of the three was her best at 13.56m.
The men's relay quartet comprising of KJ Arun, Kunhu Mohammed, Jibin Sebastian and Rajiv Arokya clocked 3 min 07.05s which was considered below par. However Kunhu and Arokya have qualified for men's 400m run.
The AFI is also monitoring the fitness of shotputter Om Prakash Karhana, who had twisted his ankle during warm-up at the fitness trials held on September 15. The shot put event will commence from October 2 and the Federation will take a decision after reviewing his medical report next week.
