Drug abuse affects capabilities and energy of the youth and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to work together and eradicate the growing menace, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Prasad said today.
"Drug abuse affects capabilities and energy of the youth and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to work together and eradicate the growing menace, which has risen to an alarming position in modern society," Prasad said while commissioning the Drug De-addiction and Mental Health Counselling Centre here.
"We will have to address the major reasons, which lead the youth to take drugs, besides de-addicting drug users," he said adding that drug abuse makes the youth dependant, incapable of facing challenges, finally costing their lives.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), realising its social responsibility, has taken initiatives for the physical and mental development of the state's youth, the DGP said.
Besides its professional duties, the JKP has been working for drug de-addiction and a centre is already operational at Police Control Room Srinagar, he said.
Hundreds of youth have been treated in the centre enabling them to give up on drugs and join normal life, he said adding now we have commissioned a centre at Jammu equipped with proper infrastructure to treat drug abuse patients.
All technical support will be provided by Police Hospital Jammu and medical, para-medical staff including psychiatrists will be available for treatment and counselling of patients, the DGP added.
