The tiger which was terrorising parts of Jorhat district for the past 15 days was hacked to death after it critically injured three persons at Baghmora in Namdeouri area.
According to Jorhat Divisional Forest Officer Sapon Saikia, people angered by the attack on three persons hacked to death the tiger suspected to have come from Molai Kathoni forest and terrorised the areas towards the north western side of the district.
"Killing animals and taking away their body parts is a crime as per Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Act for which a person found guilty is punished with seven years rigorous imprisonment," said Kamal Razak, biologist from National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
The tiger had injured three persons who were identified as Numal Pegu, Suren Pegu and Nazmul Ali and are undergoing treatment at Jorhat Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, the body of the Royal Bengal tiger was consigned to flames at Pulibagan of Jorhat Forest Division at Baghchung under Jorhat Police Station in presence of senior Forest officials and representatives from NTCA today.
