Sudhir Suryawanshi, who works with DNA, and his friend Santosh Fatate were attacked by 4 to 5 persons in Kharghar area, police said.
"The assailants punctured the tyres of Fatate's Swift car in which both had come from Panvel. After the attack the assailants fled from the spot on motorcycles," said Hemant Nagrale, Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner.
Suryawanshi and Fatate were admitted to the Medicity hospital at Kharghar.
"An FIR is being registered and senior officers are visiting the hospital," the Commissioner said.
Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Ranjit Patil said the culprits will be traced and brought to book.
