Rakesh Kranti, a reporter with a Hindi daily, was attacked and injured last night and had to be hospitalised, they said.
The doctors this morning operated upon Kranti for multiple fractures in arms and legs.
A group of scribes held an emergency meeting here today and urged the police to nab the miscreants who attacked Kranti.
Later, they called on Superintendent of Police B Satheesh Balan and urged him to register a case against the assailants under Section 307 of the IPC (attempt to murder).
Balan directed the SHO to book the miscreants under Section 307.
The SP told newsmen that a suspect has been called for interrogation.
According to Balan, the attackers were hired by someone who was annoyed with the Kranti's news reports.
Hisar's Deputy Commissioner Amit Aggarwal also met Kranti in the hospital and assured him that attackers will be behind the bars soon.
Meanwhile, Hisar MP and Haryana Janhit Congress chief Kuldeep Bishnoi and INLD district chief Umed Singh Lohan visited the hospital and strongly condemned the incident.
