A local court has extended judicial custody of a gangrape accused in a Muzaffarnagar riot-related case.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Narender Kumar yesterday extended judicial custody of Vedpal till May 2.
According to the prosecution, a woman was allegedly gangraped by five men, including Vedpal in Phaguna village of the district last September during the communal violence here.
The other four accused are still absconding, they said.
Meanwhile, in another riot-related case, district sessions judge Vijay Laxmi has rejected bail plea of murder accused Anil Kumar.
Kumar was arrested for allegedly killing a person Rahisuddin in Mohammadpur Raisingh village in the district, the prosecution said.
Rioters in the village had allegedly set on fire nearly 40 houses and had also burnt official documents and vehicle of the local police during last year's communal violence in the district and other parts of western Uttar Pradesh, they added.
Police had filed a case against 60 people including Anil Kumar.
Muzaffarnagar and neighbouring districts including Shamli in western Uttar Pradesh had witnessed communal riots in September last year that left over 60 people dead and thousands of people displaced.
