Referring to the recent reshuffle of the Rajasthan Cabinet, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot today alleged that the state government had "let-off ministers who faced corruption charges with just a demotion".
"Some ministers who face corruption charges or had failed to contain corruption in their respective departments were let-off with only a demotion," he told reporters here ahead of the current dispensation completing three years.
Had this government been intolerant to corruption these ministers would have been removed from the Cabinet, Gehlot said, adding the state government was "anti-development and pro-corruption".
"Instead of respecting the mandate to the people, this government had miserably failed to rise to their expectation," Gehlot said.
Referring to projects like a refinery in Barmer, railway line from Dungarpur to Ratlam, the Parvan irrigation project in Jhalawar, he said the welfare schemes and developmental works, initiated by the Congress government had been either "diluted or dumped".
"This dispensation has been functioning in a hostile manner. Governments come and go but in the name of politics welfare schemes and developmental projects should not be targeted," Gehlot said.
On the 'Resurgent Rajasthan' event to invite investment in the state, he said it had proved to be a courtesy meeting of industrialists and the tax-payers money was wasted with no result.
Besides this, the government has miserably failed to provide a safe environment to the people as there was a spurt in the corruption and crime, especially against women, Gehlot alleged.
