According to police, the juvenile accused allegedly killed the girl as she was pressurising him to continue their relationship.
"The juvenile, also a class XII student, was a close friend and a classmate of the teenage girl in school in 2015," Cyberabad Police Commissioner Sandeep Shandilya told reporters.
The Miyapur Police here had registered a case of kidnapping on a complaint lodged by family members of the girl who went missing last Saturday. A case of murder was registered by the Sangareddy district Police after her body was found.
"Because of their acquaintance and close relationship, the deceased has been pressurising the JCL (juvenile in conflict with law) to continue their friendship. The juvenile suspected that she is also getting close with two other boys. Hence, he discontinued his relationship with her," the commissioner said.
However, the girl was insisting that they should continue their "friendship".
"Both of them decided to sort out their problems and accordingly went to Madhavapuri Hills, where the girl picked up a quarrel with the juvenile over their relationship," Shandilya said.
"He laid her down, hit her with blows and throttled her to death. He then dragged the body to the cliff and escaped. On the way, he threw her cell phone into a pond," the top officer said, adding that it is not a case of sexual assault.
According to another senior official, the juvenile was picked up from a location here on the basis of CCTV footages, and during questioning he claimed the girl was "pressurising him to marry her".
He said the social media is having a bad impact on the psychology of children and adviced parental guidance.
