Some of the crucial technology needs for India are for non-fossil electricity generation and safe drinking water, said Kakodkar, DAE Homi Bhaba Chair Professor and Member - Atomic Energy Commission, at the 16th National Technology Day function organised by Navaratna PSU NALCO.
Citing examples of various activities at BARC, he highlighted the linking of technological output to the rural domains. Kakodkar was a former Atomic Energy Commission Chairman and former Director of BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre).
Speaking on "Technology for India's Empowerment", the veteran scientist explained the importance of educational institutes in the country and students' interest based education in these domains.
Highlighting the emerging space for Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), Kakodkar deliberated on the approach for India linking STI to macro global economy.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Anup K Pujari, Secretary, Union Ministry of Mines, emphasised on small and incremental innovation in bringing about changes and getting benefits.
NALCO's CMD Ansuman Das, who presided over the function, emphasised on the importance of National Technology Day and stressed upon change of mindset on Research and Development for technological development. He also stressed upon working hard with innovative mind to face the challenging market situation faced by the aluminium producers.
