Karna govt to build about 2 lakh houses for poor in Bengaluru

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'housing for all by 2022,' the Karnataka government has identified about 1,000 acres to build about two lakh dwelling units in the city for the poor, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said on Thursday.

"It is the Prime Minister's wish.. In the next three to four years everyone should have a house. In this regard, we have decided to build 10 to 12 storey buildings in Bengaluru..," hetold reporters here after marathon meeting with the Financedepartment officials.

The chief minister further said the residential project to be taken up by the housing department would have amenities including lift.

It would be developed on the lines of projects taken up in Gujarat and afew other states.

"After a week, I will inspect two to three spots. This year we have set a target of two lakh houses. To complete this, we have identified 1,000 acres of land," Yediyurappa noted.

According to officials, the scheme was meant for urban poor, who would be provided houses at subsidised rates.

On the implementation of the recently formulated Debt Relief Act, an initiative by the outgoing chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, Yediyurappa said there were discussions on framing regulations.

"The President has given assent to the (Debt Relief) Act. We held elaborate discussions on its implementation and making people aware of this law," he said.

The law aims at giving relief to the farmers andpeople from weaker section from the private money lenders, who were one of the reasons behind farmers' suicides.

On the crop insurance scheme for farmers, he said youth, who have been engaged for surveying crops, have put in a lot of efforts so that no injustice is metedout to the ryots.
