Kasganj violence: Minorities panel seeks report from UP govt
Press Trust of India New Delhi The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has "taken suo motu cognisance of violence in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj and sought a detailed report from the state government.
NCM Chairman Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi directed the commission's secretary to seek a report from the Uttar Pradesh government with details of arrests made, FIRs registered and steps taken to restore normalcy in the strife-torn city.
"The Chief Secretary, UP, may be asked to send the report within five days," he said.
Violence erupted in Kasganj last week after 22-year-old Chandan Gupta was killed in clashes following stone-pelting on a motorcycle rally taken out to celebrate Republic Day.
The prime accused in Gupta's killing was arrested today.
