Kashmir LS bypolls: Hussain, 4 other crorepatis in fray

PDP nominee for Anantnag bypolls, Mufti Tasaduq Hussain, is wealthier than his sister Mehbooba Mufti while four other candidates in the fray for the two Lok Sabha seats in Kashmir have declared assets worth over Rs 1 crore.
Hussain (45), making debut in electoral politics by filing nominations from south Kashmir's Anantnag Lok Sabha seat - vacated by his 58-year-old sister and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, owns assets worth Rs 24 crores, according to the affidavit he has filed with his nomination papers.
He owns moveable assets worth Rs 32.33 lakh and immoveable assets worth Rs 23.70 crore, which include one kanal of land at Bijbhera in Anantnag district and 4.4 kanals at Aru in Pahalgam.

Hussain also has 50 per cent share in a residential house at Koderhalli, Kengeri and a flat at Gurugram, Haryana. He also owns a house at Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Hussain has liabilities worth Rs 96 lakh which includes Rs 58 lakh housing loan and Rs nine lakh car loan. He owes Rs 29 lakh to a builder for the flat at Gurugram.
The value of assets owned by his wife, Radhika Kapur, is over Rs 11 crore.

Mehbooba, who became the chief minister of the state in April last year after death of her father and then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7, 2016, has about both moveable as well as immovable assets worth Rs 56 lakh.

When she filed her nomination papers for assembly bypolls last year, she declared moveable assets worth Rs 10.96 lakh and immoveable assets worth Rs 45 lakhs.
Two other high-profile candidates - National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah and Pradesh Congress Committee president Ghulam Ahmad Mir - in fray for the two seats - Srinagar and Anantnag respectively - are also crorepatis.
Abdullah has declared his moveable and immoveable assets worth over Rs 14 crore.
The former Union Minister, who has also served as the state's chief minister thrice, has moveable assets worth Rs 1.68 crore.
The NC president has valued his immoveable property at Rs 12.50 crore, which include an orchard land at Khalmulla Ganderbal and land at Nandpora and Soura Srinagar.

He also has one-third share in Dhanji Bhai Building at Sherwani Road, Srinagar and owns two houses - one at Gupkar here (inherited property) and second at Bathindi in Jammu.
The NC leader, in his affidavit, has said he has no knowledge of the assets of his wife who has been living in London since 1990.
However, he said, she has no property in Jammu and Kashmir.
Another crorepati candidate in the fray is the Congress' state chief.
Mir has declared the value of his assets at over Rs 15 crore. According to his affidavit, Mir has moveable assets worth Rs 60 lakh and immoveable assets worth Rs 14.95 crore.

His wife has assets worth Rs 36 lakh.
Two other candidates contesting from Srinagar constituency - Ghulam Hassan Dar (Independent) and Chetan Sharma (Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha) - have assets worth Rs four crore and Rs 1.5 crore respectively.
The elections will be held in Srinagar on April 9, while Anantnag will go to polls on April 12. The results would be declared on April 15.
