The 29-year-old singer's performance has been speculated since August after the National Football League had shortlisted her along with Coldplay and Rihanna, reported Billboards.
It is being said that the three contenders for the event have been asked to pay to play. It is not clear yet whether Perry will make any payment, as she recently said on a show, "I'm not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl."
The singer has been chosen apparently because of her current hits, her (mostly) family-friendly catalog, and her international popularity. With 58.1 million Twitter followers, she is the most popular celebrity on the micro-blogging site.
