Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi on Monday to urge the Centre to take steps for categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs) in the state.
"An all-party delegation led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on February 6 to request him to give his assent to the Categorisation of the SCs Bill," a release from Rao's office said.
The proposed meeting of the delegation comes against the backdrop of agitation by certain outfits for categorisation of SCs. The categorisation of SCs is being sought on the ground that they have not benefited much in the existing system.
The Chief Minister had written a letter inviting all political parties to be part of the delegation and to be present in New Delhi on February 5.
The invitees include State Congress President N Uttam Kumar Reddy, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Telangana BJP head K Laxman, TDP State unit president L Ramana, CPM State Secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram and his CPI counterpart Chada Venkat Reddy.
Rao had expressed his willingness to lead an all-party delegation on the issue to New Delhi at the meeting of SC and ST public representatives as well as on the floor of the Legislative Assembly.
