Nearly 500 employees of Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation in the district went on a strike Thursday to protest an attack on municipal staff.
Five employees of the corporation including surveyor Sriram Zople were injured in an attack by a mob at Umbarde village in the district Wednesday, police said.
The employees had gone to the village for a survey of a plot where pumping station is proposed to be built.
A mob allegedly opposed the survey and attacked them.
Five persons were arrested for the attack Thursday, Khadakpada police said.
Protesting the incident, employees of the corporation went on a strike.
