Ker Govt to set up 'Responsible Tourism Mission'

Kerala government is getting ready to set up a 'Responsible Tourism Mission' with an aim to expand its ambitious responsible tourism programme.
State Tourism Minister A C Moideen today informed the state Assembly that the initiative is being implemented in seven destinations across the state and would be extended in other select locations.
"Seeking to expand the Responsible Tourism programme across the state, a Responsible Tourism Mission will be launched. At present, the initiative is being implemented in Kovalam, Kumarakom, Thekkady, Vythiri, Ambalavayal, Kumbalangi and Bekal," he said during Question Hour.
Besides this, the programme has also started being implemented at the project site of Muziris, an ambitious heritage project of the state government, he said.
Detailing various tourism development initiatives of the government, the minister also said a five star hotel in high range Munnar and a three-star hotel each in Kozhikode and Muzhappilangadu and 15 cottages in Ponmudi here are under plans.
An ambitious initiative of the state Tourism Department, Responsible Tourism has introduced tourists to the lifestyle of local communities.
Besides ensuring quality tourism experience to holidayers, the initiative has helped financially empower local people by creating jobs.
