The Kerala government would consider imposing strict penalties on those who violate noise pollution norms, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Friday.
Vijayan, while speaking after inaugurating a workshop ahead of the first-ever 'Global Parliament on Safe Sound and Noise Related Health Issues', spoke about the harmful effects of noise pollution and said deafening noise have long term impact on children.
The meet is scheduled to be held here on August 24 and 25.
"Noise pollution is on the rise and reports suggest that it affects the physical and mental conditions of humans. Children are the most affected ones.Deafening noise have long term impact on children.
Loud noise will adversely affect pregnant women also," the chief minister said.
"The government is also considering imposing strict penalties on those who make noises above a specified decibel," Vijayan added.
The global meet, organised by the Indian Medical Association and the National Initiative for Safe Sound, will deliberate on a various aspects of noise pollution and its social, legal and health aspects.
