: The activities of different literary and cultural organizations under the state department of cultural affairs will be expanded to foreign countries having large NRK population, Minister for Rural Development, Planning, Culture and NORKA, K C Joseph said today.
He was speaking during a session on 'Malayalam and Kerala Culture: Influence on NRKs' at the Global NRK Meet here. Most of the participants in the session were of the opinion that the NRKs are the people who admire their mother tongue more than the residents here.
"Malayalees are a group of people who always give priority to their own culture even if they are living in a different socio-cultural environment," Kerala Sahitya Akademi Chairman, Perumbadavam Sreedharan said after inaugurating the session. "Keralites posses a unique ability to easily mingle with the national culture of the country where they are residing," he added.
The NRKs have contributed immensely to the Malayalam language and literature, Kerala Folklore Akademi Chairman Prof B Muhammed Ahammed said in his presidential address. A lot more literary discussions are happening among the expatriate Malayalees than compared to that in Kerala, he noted.
"There has been a sense of fear among most of us about the future of Malayalam language with the advent of computer and internet. However, we succeeded in keeping pace with the technology and the role played by NRKs in this has been very crucial," renowned writer Benyamin said.
