"We are sending a letter of protest to the Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council seeking his cooperation in ensuring that all these encroachment activities be put to a stop immediately," Khasi Hills District Autonomous Council chief executive member (CEM), Pynshngainlang N Syiem told reporters after a meeting here.
Based on available records, he said these areas encroached by Assam government fall under the jurisdiction of the Council in Meghalaya.
The decision was taken after a meeting with the Syiem (traditional tribal chief) of Raid Nongtung and President of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnongs (village chiefs) under Raid Nongtung based on the complaint filed by NGOs on the recent reports of Assam government's alleged encroachment in the district.
