Ahead of the World Environment Day, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today stressed on the need for a uniform policy across the globe to protect and conserve the environment.
"Along with development, it is necessary to ensure protection of the environment. All countries across the globe should frame a uniform policy for protection and conservation of environment," he said.
Khattar was speaking after inaugurating a one-day workshop-cum-conference at Panchkula, near here, organised by State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Haryana State Pollution Control Board and SEARCH Foundation, an official release said.
Addressing the representatives of various departments and NGOs working in the field of environment conservation, the Chief Minister said the 'three Rs' of environment protection - reuse, reduce and recycle - should be adopted.
He asked the people to participate in the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' and 'Swachh Bharat, Swachh Haryana' campaign being implemented in the state and to eschew polythene in favour of bags made from natural materials such as jute and cotton.
Stressing on protection of vultures, Khattar said, "In 2001, the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, got an action plan prepared for the protection of vultures, the population of which was declining fast. These birds, by keeping the environment clean, contribute significantly to the 'Swachhta' campaign.
