Pushpendra Singh, who was abducted from Agra on August 27, was rescued by a Special Task Force team of state police on the same day, IG (Law and Order) R K Vishwakarma told reporters here today.
The kidnappers were arrested on a tip off that they were bringing Singh to Kasganj border area, he said, adding the gang leader identified as Jitendra Singh was still absconding.
The gang members used to take the abducted persons to an island along Ganga river, Vishwakarma said.
The modus operandi of gang came to light during when Badaun resident Ashok Kumar Maheshwari was freed after the payment of a ransom of Rs 5 lakh, the IG said.
