Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today asked the public to promote healthy life style to prevent them from falling a prey to alcoholism.
Bedi who visited the drug de-addiction centre in the Centrally sponsored JIPMER here said in a whatsapp message that it was indeed mind boggling that several people were spending their hard earned money for drinking.
She said during her interaction with one of the middle aged alcoholics at the de-addiction centre she came to know that the person was spending Rs 70 a day for the brew.
"The JIPMER hospital running the de-addiction centre is however spending around Rs 5000 per head per day for treatment."
"This means that the State Exchequer was earning around Rs 30 from the person given to drinking while the hospital is spending daily a hefty sum of Rs 5000 for treatment. It is tax payer's money", she said.
It is our money, she said and stressed that we should therefore promote healthy life style among the teenagers at schools and colleges and also even among those who are out of educational institutionsto protect them from alcoholism.
Bedi also stressed that there should be programmes to expose the alcoholics to skill development programmes.
