KMC plans to set up blood bank

Kolkata Municipal Corporation will set up a blood bank on the lines of the Central Blood Bank on KMC land along EM Bypass in the city.
Mayor Sovan Chatterjee told reporters today that a detailed project report was being prepared which will be completed in this financial year.
Mayor-in-Council (Health) Atin Ghosh said in view of the occurrence of vector-borne diseases like viral fever, dengue and malaria, the KMC plans to buy 16 platelet counting machines at a cost of Rs 30 lakh.
Since the platelet count of samples, which is done manually in most clinics, often differ, the need was felt for purchasing these machines to standardise the results, he said.

These machines, he said, would be installed in 16 boroughs of the city.
The process of buying the machines will begin in two months time and be completed in six months.
The KMC also decided to implement the Food Safety Act, 2006 for which hotel and restaurant staff will be asked to wear caps and gloves while preparing and serving food.
80,000 booklets have been prepared containing the do's and dont's contained in the ACT which will be distributed to the hotels and restaurants of the city.
