Gujarat's Koli community members led by BJP MLA Hira Solanki met Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel here today to demand more "representation" for their community in the Gujarat government.
After the meeting, Koli community members said that they are satisfied with the outcome of the meeting.
Gujarat Animal Husbandry Minister Purshottam Solanki's younger brother Hira Solanki, has been spearheading the community's agitation demanding that since the community stood behind the BJP in every election, its members should be given more "representation" in the state government.
Hira Solanki had also organised a large gathering of Koli community members to press for the demand and had protested after he was not made a minister while his elder brother Purshottam Solanki was made a minister.
According to Hira Solanki, today's meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel was "fruitful".
"I, along with other Koli leaders met the CM and held discussions for half-an-hour. She told us not to agitate for representation of our community in the government. She gave a positive response to our demands," Solanki said.
Though Patel didn't give any definite assurance about how the Gujarat government plans to give more representation to the community, Solanki claimed that Patel gave him a "positive" indication.
"There was no definite assurance, but she told us that the Gujarat government has always taken care of Kolis in the past. Similarly, Kolis would get due representation in the future also. We were asked to be calm until that happens.
Thus, we will wait until that happens in the near future," Hira Solanki said.
