The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police is contemplating the idea of interrogating Yasin Bhatkal, the co-founder of terror-outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM) to know about the outfit's network in Kolkata and Bengal, a senior STF officer said today.
"We are contemplating the idea of interrogating Yasin Bhatkal. We want to interrogate him regarding the IM's network in Kolkata and Bengal," the officer told PTI on condition of anonymity.
Bhatkal, the key accused in several blasts across the country including the ones in Hyderabad and Mumbai, was today arrested from Indo-Nepal border in Bihar.
He was once arrested in 2008 by the city police in a fake currency case, but as the police had no clue about his real identity and because of lack of coordination with central agencies, Bhatkal managed to secure bail and fled.
Asked whether the STF would visit Delhi to grill Bhatkal, the officer said, "As of now we don't think we will get a scope of interrogating him. After a terrorist is arrested, central security agencies and the state police that nabbed him, interrogate him first."
"Then the agencies ask their counterparts in other states to interrogate the person. This is the normal procedure. So, right now we don't think we will get a scope, but surely after a week or so we will try to interrogate him," he said.
