Two Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger-Chandra group (KPLTC) militants, including its self-styled chairman, were killed in an encounter with the police in a dense jungle in Assam's Karbi Anglong district today, the police said.
The extremists exchanged fire with the security forces at Dolmora forest in Tarapung where three of the ultras died, said district Superintendent of Police Debojit Deori.
The insurgents were identified as KPLT-C 'chairman' and known rhino poacher Chandra Rongpi alias Mia (33) and cadre Arun Teron (19), Deori said.
An AK 47 rifle with one magazine and nine live ammunition and one SBML gun were recovered from the slain militants.
The bodies of the cadres were taken to Dolamara PS today, he added.
