The nomination was made by party chief Sonia Gandhi ahead of the "Chintan Shivir" (Study camp) of the party to be held at Jaipur from January 18 to 20. The announcement was made by AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi.
80-year-old Krishna, a former Karnataka Chief Minister, had resigned as External Affairs Minister in October last. He has been given the new responsiblity ahead of the Karnataka assembly polls due by middle of the year.
Krishna had been recently made chairperson of the AICC sub-committee drafting the resolution on international affairs for the Chintan Shivir.
76-year-old Deora was a Union Minister till the middle of 2011 handling key ministries like Petroleum and Chemicals and later Corporate Affairs. He was Mumbai Congress chief for a record number of years earlier.
