Institutional co-ordination would be set up between Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa police to prevent crimes, a senior police official said.
Speaking to reporters after a coordination meeting held between senior officers of three states here, IGP, Kolhapur (Maharashtra) Ritesh Kumar said many inter-state criminal gangs operate in these states and lack of information sharing was creating problems.
The police from these states' border areas would share information on criminals, murders, robbery, thefts, drug and human trafficking and the like, he said.
Most of the time, the criminals operate in one state while reside in another causing delay in nabbing the culprits, he said.
More stress would be laid on prevention of crimes by increasing quality in intelligence department and by creating intelligence groups between the three states, said Umesh Kumar, IGP, Belagavi, who also briefed the media.
Twenty periodical check post units will be set up in the border area to keep a watch on movements of criminals, he said. A criminal details booklet will prepared by all three state police and exchanged between them, he said.
Replying to a question on drug and liquor trafficking from Goa, Kartik Kashyap S.P (crimes) Goa, said all efforts will be made to plug the origin of illegal trafficking from Goa.
Goa and Karnataka police accepted that Belagavi is being used as transit points by the illegal traffickers and a joint information sharing will bring down such crimes, Kashyap said.
