Kuldeep Saini on Tuesday took over the charge as Inspector General of the BSF (Meghalaya Frontier), relieving L Mohanti from the post, officials said.
An officer of 1984 batch, Saini has also served in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Saini has taken over charge today from Mohanti, who was transferred to Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters in Delhi," a spokesperson said.
"The new IG has emphasized on the optimum use of technology for effective border management to prevent infiltration and crimes, maintain cordial relations with the population near border, respecting human rights, and ensuring welfare of troops," the BSF spokesperson added.
The Meghalaya Frontier of the BSF is in charge of guarding the 443 km-long India-Bangladesh border, parts of parts of which are unfenced and difficult to access.
