BJP MP Jamyang T Namgyal on Wednesday said the Union Territory of Ladakh is moving towards development after the abrogation of Article 370.

"Before the abolition of Article 370 there was a sense of insecurity, discrimination and exclusion among the people of Ladakh...Now Ladakh is moving towards development," the BJP MP from Ladakh said in Lok Sabha during the discussion on the budget for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

After the abolition of Article 370, he said, for the first time in the history, Ladakh was getting its right.

Stating that earlier minimal budget was allocated to Ladakh, he said that the funds allocated by the Centre never reached the union territory.

But after the Narendra Modi-led BJP government assumed office, Ladakh was allocated Rs 6,000 crore and "now we have to prove that we are honest".

Stating that it was a central government budget and "if it will not be discussed in Parliament then where will it be discussed," he questioned.

He also stressed that "we were going to make Ladakh a waste-free region," and added after the Modi government assumed office, democracy has become stronger at grass-roots level in Jammu and Kashmir.
