Lahore blast toll rises to 8 after injured Pak soldier dies

A Pakistani soldier who was injured in a suicide blast here early this month today succumbed to his injuries at combined military hospital in the city, raising the death toll in the bombing to eight.
"Another injured of April 5 Lahore blast Mumshah Hussain died today here at CMH. Doctors tried their best but they couldn't save his life," Punjab police spokesman Niyab Haider told PTI.
Five Pakistani soldiers were among seven killed and 19 others injured when a bomber targeted army men escorting a census team on Lahore's Baidian Road on April 5.
The suicide bomber, who appeared to be Uzbek, came close to a van carrying army personnel and blew himself up. The army team had reached there to carry out census activity.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack.
Police said the suicide bomber appeared to be an Uzbek.

Lahore has been on edge since a wave of violent attacks across the country in February killed 130 people.
The attacks included a bomb blast on February 13, which killed 14 people in an assault claimed by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a faction of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the security agencies have taken some 15 suspects in connection with April 5 Lahore attack.
"The security agencies have taken some suspects into custody in connection with the Lahore blast. They are being interrogated for their alleged link to terror network," he said.

Yesterday the counter terrorism department of Punjab police arrested a facilitator of militant group Islamic State from Lahore cantonment area.
According to police, Umar alias Sufian provided accommodation to the members of ISIS in Lahore.
