SDMC and DDA today made claims and counter claims over whether sites allocated to the municipal body in Dwarka to build garbage dumps were in green areas, prompting Delhi High Court to direct them to sit together and sort out the locations.
South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) said of the nine sites allocated to it for building garbage dumps, five were in designated green areas, one inside a hospital and others in other structures, whereas Delhi Development Authority (DDA) refuted the claim.
While directing the two authorities to sort out the issue, a bench of justices B D Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva also ordered that physical handing over of sites, after demarcation at site, be done tomorrow and listed the matter for further hearing on April 8.
It also directed DDA to file a status report along with a map of the sub-city indicating the service lanes that have been repaired and need repairing.
The court asked petitioner Ebbani Aggarwal, a law student and resident of Dwarka, to take pictures of the service lanes and place them before the bench on the next date so that the condition of such roads can be ascertained.
DDA, meanwhile, submitted that though the issue of ownership of land under metro viaducts has not been resolved, since DMRC disclaimed ownership, the area in question is being cleaned by the authority and will continue to do so till the issue is resolved.
Senior officials of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), SDMC and DDA were also present in court today pursuant to its earlier order seeking their presence to explain the delays in carrying out cleanliness and sanitation works in Dwarka.
Ebbani in her PIL sought directions to the civic agencies to clean up the sub-city.
